Kybella

Kybella is the first FDA-approved, injectable solution used to dissolve fat.  Double chins are one of the most common concerns among both women and men today.  Kybella is highly effective at reducing the submental fat, located under the chin, that creates the double chin concern.

Regardless of age, a double chin can make you look older and heavier. And most submental fat will not respond to improved diet and exercise efforts because it is genetic.  Kybella treatments provide dramatic results that allow you to feel more attractive and more confident about your appearance.

What is Kybella?

Kybella is a formulation of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the human body that assists in the breakdown and absorption of fat.  When Kybella is injected into subcutaneous fat, the fat cells are destroyed and cannot rejuvenate.

It provides a wonderful non-surgical solution for reducing the appearance of your double chin.  Before Kybella was introduced in April of 2015, the only way to treat this concern was with surgical liposuction. Now you can have a tighter, more contoured jawline with just a simple injection treatments – with no incision and no downtime.

It’s important to understand Kybella only removes fat – it does not remove excess skin. If you have loose “turkey neck” skin, Kybella will not correct that problem.  If you have loose, sagging skin on your neck, a surgical neck contouring procedure, with liposuction, may be a better option.

The Treatment

Depending upon your anatomy, needs and concerns, anywhere from 15-50 injections will be administered. A special grid is used to carefully map the locations for these injections. The whole procedure takes only about 20 – 30 minutes.  Several treatments, usually 2-3 performed every 4 weeks, may be required and depends upon your anatomy and treatment goals. Once your goals are met, the fat cells are gone for good and your treatment is completed.

Anyone 18 or over, in good health with bothersome submental fat is a good candidate for Kybella treatment.  Anyone pregnant or nursing may not have this procedure.

Recovery

Most patients return to their regular activities immediately. Some patients report some minor bruising and swelling that resolves within several days. Any mild discomfort around the injection sites is easily treated with over the counter pain relievers.

Cost

The cost of your Kybella treatment depends on the number of injections needed to meet your goals.  We will provide you with an estimated cost for a full round of treatments during your consultation

Questions?

“My double chin has bothered me since I was a teenager so it’s so exciting for me to finally have a real jawline. I can’t believe how much of a difference that it makes in how I look. I feel so much prettier!  Dr. Vela was lovely and so professional, gentle and kind. He called me himself the day after my treatment to check on me, which I really appreciated.
