Male Breast Reduction
If you are self-conscience about the appearance of your chest, you might be a candidate for Male Breast Reduction.
Gynecomastia is the over development of male breast tissue and is a common concern, affecting approximately 40% of men. Male breast reduction surgery can help men of nearly any age affected by gynecomastia. This procedure removes unwanted fat and tissue from the chest area, resulting in a flatter, more masculine chest.
Enlarged breasts are often uncomfortable and socially concerning for men. In addition to improving the chest contour, a male breast reduction procedure often has many other life-enhancing benefits, including:
- Freedom to go shirtless at the beach or pool
- Improved self-confidence
- Expand wardrobe options to include more tailored shirts.
Gynecomastia usually develops at the time of puberty. It often shrinks within several months after it begin, but if it persists for more than 12 months, it may become fibrotic and is unlikely to go away on its own. The condition can be genetic, but is more often a random, sporadic occurrence.
An individualized approach for natural results
At Belcara Health, we always strive to give our patients the most natural looking results possible. Our surgeons use advanced surgical techniques and technology to ensure our patients have the least amount of scarring possible, a quick recovery and effective results. Your surgeon’s recommended surgical plan will be determined by your anatomy and your desired outcome.
What’s involved in a male breast reduction?
Male breast reduction surgery takes about 1 to 3 hours and is done on an outpatient basis, usually under general anesthesia. Small incisions are made in the armpit, below the areola, or both. The excess breast tissue and fat is removed with liposuction, excision, or a combination of these two. This creates a smooth, flat contoured chest for a more masculine shape.
The procedure is performed at our fully accredited, private Belcara Health Surgery Center. Because safety is our first concern, we always work with board-certified anesthesiologists. Following surgery, you will be able to rest in the comfort of your own home. Recovery time depends upon your customized surgical plan and your general health condition Expect to return to work within about one week.
