Top 12 CoolSculpting Questions Answered
CoolSculpting is quickly becoming a popular body contouring option for Maryland men and women. Here, we’ve answered our patients’ most common CoolSculpting questions:
Q. What is CoolSculpting?
A. CoolSculpting is a safe, FDA-cleared, non-surgical treatment that uses cooling technology to permanently rid fat cells from your body. This is the fat reduction option many patients have been waiting for, because it offers:
- Permanent fat loss without surgery or needles
- Noticeable results after only treatment
- An easy way to fit comfortably into your skinny jeans or little black dress
Q. What is DualSculpting?
A. To give you the most convenient, effective treatments possible, we decided to take CoolSculpting one step further to DualSculpting. With two machines, we can apply a CoolSculpting element to each side so you can get your desired results in only one appointment.

Q. How does CoolSculpting compare to liposuction?
A. Both can permanently remove unwanted fat cells from localized areas of your body, but liposuction and CoolSculpting each work a little differently. Because CoolSculpting is non-surgical, it requires no anesthesia or downtime for recovery. However, the results appear more gradually than they do with liposuction, and CoolSculpting is best for moderate fat deposits on the abdomen.

Q. How long is each treatment?
A. During your consultation, your Patient Advisor will discuss how much time is recommended for your treatments, based on your individual goals. Most treatments last one hour. With DualSculpting, we’re equipped to treat two different areas simultaneously, so your treatment time is cut in half.
Q. How does the procedure work?
A. To initiate the treatment we position the CoolSculpting applicator on your body, in the area or areas where you would like to lose fat. We offer a variety of sizes and styles of applicators (flat pads or suction paddles), allowing us to target more areas of your body and provide more effective results. The type of applicator used will depend upon your body and goals. The treatment works by freezing the unwanted fat cells until they break down, so your body can naturally get rid of them. This groundbreaking technology only freezes fat cells, so your skin, muscle and other tissues remain unaffected and healthy. And you have a slimmer, more contoured body shape!
Q. Will I be comfortable?
A. Most of our patients say they feel something like a firm pull and pressure – enough of a pull to ensure the selected tissue will be cooled most efficiently – but this sensation is generally well-tolerated. Patients often spend procedure time reading, working on their laptops, or simply relaxing. An hour or so later, depending on your needs, you’re done.
Q. Is there any downtime after treatment?
A. CoolSculpting is completely non-surgical, so typically you can return to normal activities immediately. Some patients experience redness, tingling, numbness or slight discomfort in the treated area, but this is temporary and will resolve completely. Often times, patients return to work after the session is over.
Q. When will I see results?
A. You may start to see changes as quickly as three weeks after your treatment, and will experience the most dramatic results after one to three months. Your body is still flushing fat cells and will continue doing so for up to four to six months after treatment. The pictures below will give you an idea of how results progress.
Q. What will the results look like?
A. You should see noticeable reduction in the size of the fat bulge in the area treated. Many patients are satisfied after one treatment. Some patients decide to have a second treatment a few months later to further enhance their results. During your complimentary consultation, we can discuss a treatment plan that will meet your specific needs.
Q. Are the results permanent?
A. Yes. During CoolSculpting, the treated fat cells are done away with. As long as you maintain a healthy lifestyle, exercise sensibly, and eat in moderation, long-term results should remain stable.
Q. Are there any side effects?
A. The most common side effects from CoolSculpting are temporary, mild bruising, redness, and tingling in the treatment area. Because there is no anesthesia required, you don’t have to worry about side effects associated with anesthesia.
