Refractive Lens Exchange*

Belcara Health is excited to offer Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE), also known as Clear Lens Extraction (CLE). This procedure is becoming increasingly popular for people over 40 years old who want to get rid of their dependence on glasses or contact lenses. RLE corrects your vision by removing the natural human lens and replacing it with a “bionic” lens. With this procedure, we can also correct Presbyopia, which is the aging of the eye that causes the need for reading glasses.

During the Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) procedure, the eyes natural crystalline lens (which will eventually become a cataract) is removed and replaced with an artificial lens (IOL) that corrects any existing nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. Depending on the type of IOL that is selected by the patient and the surgeon, majority of patients reading difficulties can also be corrected. An added bonus to this procedure is that by removing your natural human lens early, when you begin to notice changes in your vision, you will not develop cataracts as you get older, and this can work towards not needing cataract surgery in the future.

When I hit my mid 40’s, my eyesight started to go downhill. Since my dad had to have cataract surgery last year, I figured the time was right for me to do this now. I had several consultations with other doctors about this procedure and none of them compared to Dr. Adler and his staff! Dr. Adler took his time to answer all of my questions and really educated me on this procedure. During my surgeries the assistants and Dr. Adler were so attentive! My vision is perfect and my eyes feel completely normal. I highly recommended Dr. Adler. He is a great doctor and definitely knows what he is doing. He is very detailed and very kind and very patient!
