What motivates a person to consider facial plastic surgery?

A variety of factors influence a patient’s decision to visit a plastic surgeon for facial rejuvenation. Many patients I see fall into one of the following categories:

1) Patients whose looks don’t match their attitude. These are older people who still feel young and vital, but physically look aged. They may have lines and wrinkles, sagging cheeks, eyes and necks, age spots and poor skin tone. Our goal is to align how they look with how they feel through facelifts, brow lifts, eyelid surgery and laser treatments. I remember one particular patient who was beautiful and very active. She played tennis and enjoyed hiking, but was unhappy because she looked older than many of her friends. After surgery she felt much better about herself. At Belcara Health, we emphasize natural results – not changing a patient’s fundamental appearance, just addressing the signs of aging. We offer a number of options in facial rejuvenation, surgical and non-surgical, minimally invasive and more invasive, so we can customize each patient’s treatment plan to their precise needs.

2) Patients who are going through lifestyle changes and want to “start over” in their personal or professional life. Facial rejuvenation goes a long way in creating a new sense of confidence, or simply renewing a commitment to doing everything to look and feel your best. One of my recent patients, for example, just re-entered the workforce after raising her family and was concerned that she looked a lot older than her counterparts. Surgery helped her to look younger, feel more competitive and gave her the confidence to tackle any challenge. I have many patients, both male and female, with similar concerns about staying competitive in the workplace. Surgical solutions for this group may include eyelid surgery, MACS lifts (mini face lifts), and brow lifts as well as Sciton Laser treatments.

3) Young people who notice the signs of aging. I have many patients in their early 30s and 40s who want to slow down the aging process as they begin to see changes. For this group it makes sense to begin preservation as early as possible when surgery or treatments are not dramatic or apparent. Over time, thanks to the subtle changes we have made, they continue to look natural, but appear to be aging more slowly than their contemporaries. Treatments and preventative solutions such as Botox and fillers, chemical peels and laser treatments, and simple surgical corrections preserve their youthful appearance.

The bottom line is that feeling good about how you look, at any stage of life, does translate to self-confidence – and that can be extremely beneficial and rewarding at work and at play.
