Can you make me “this” cup size?

We can give you the size and shape breasts you desire, but please understand that cup size is a very subjective measurement. It is understandable why many women tend to think about breast size in relation to bra sizes because that is the measurement they’re accustomed to using. But all women wear bras differently and every bra manufacturer makes them differently. At Belcara Health, we make augmentation recommendations that are based on your overall body proportions, skin quality, amount of breast tissue and breast shape.  The number of “CCs.” in the recommended implant does not correlate to a particular cup size. Women can receive the exact same CC implants with widely different cup size results.

Will a breast augmentation give me the cleavage I want?

It is possible! It’s important to understand that cleavage is not dictated by breast size; cleavage is a function of your breast shape, the width of your chest and how close your breasts sit on your body. If your breasts are set wide on your chest, a breast augmentation will create more fullness, but not more cleavage. And, if your chest is narrow and your breasts are close together, even a slight augmentation can result in great cleavage.

How do I know if I need a breast lift?

Here’s one way to tell: if your nipples are lower than the crease below your breast, you will probably need a breast lift to achieve optimal results. Adding implants without removing excess skin will make your breasts look saggier – which will only get worse over time.

Will I be able to breastfeed?

Accepted Answer

You can expect to breastfeed successfully with implants. Breast implants are placed between the chest wall and breast tissue, avoiding the ducts and glands that produce milk after pregnancy.

Will mammograms be less accurate in detecting breast cancer?

Accepted Answer

No. Experienced radiology technicians can capture reliable x-rays of breasts with implants. However, they will need to capture additional views (more x-ray images) – for patients with implants.

Will I notice any changes in my nipple sensitivity?

Accepted Answer

Most women do not experience a change in nipple sensation. The farther away the incision is placed, the less nipple sensation will be affected. However, a handful of women do report that their nipples become over-sensitive or under-sensitive. It usually disappears with time, but it can remain a permanent change – but that happens rarely.

How long do breast implants last?

While it is highly uncommon, both silicone and saline breast implants can rupture. When a saline breast implant leaks, it will deflate, and you’ll notice the change. Because saline fluid is only salt water, your body will easily absorb and expel it naturally.  A silicone breast implant rupture is much more difficult to notice. There are usually no symptoms or problems because the silicone gel remains contained within the fibrous tissue capsule that forms around an implant. Ruptures are often only discovered on a mammogram or an MRI.  However, it is possible for the surrounding tissue to become inflamed, causing soreness, swelling, softening, hardening or a change in breast shape.

Where will my procedure be performed?

Most breast augmentation procedures are performed on-site at Belcara Health, in our fully-accredited Surgery Center. Our Surgery Center is state-of-the-art and meets the most stringent standards and requirements. It’s one of the few outpatient surgical facilities in the area to earn accreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). This high-level accreditation signifies that we have met the rigorous standards of a nationally recognized third party. But, if you prefer, you may choose to have your procedure at a hospital. Our surgeons have priveledges at a number of area hospitals, including Northwest, Siani, and GBMC.

Do I have to be “put under?” If so, who administers the anesthesia?

At Belcara Health, breast augmentation procedures are performed using a light general anesthesia. Because your safety is our first concern, we only use board-certified anesthesiologist to administer anesthesia. Therefore, you’ll have 2 board-certified physicians with you during your entire procedure.

How long will it take me to recover from my breast augmentation surgery?

Most patients return to work within the first week, though your breast implants will take a few months to fully settle into a more natural position. Generally, you can expect to resume normal activity as follows:

How long until I can resume my exercise routine?

Accepted Answer

As mentioned, recovery is different for every patient, but we generally recommend starting light exercise after a week, and work up to more aerobic activity as you feel comfortable. We recommend you wait at least 3-4 weeks before resuming any chest presses and weight lifting activities.
