Maryland Eyelid Surgery – Upper & Lower Blepharoplasty
Your eyes tell the world how you feel. Bright, open eyes appear alert and refreshed, allowing your natural warmth and beauty to shine through. But if you have drooping, heavy lids or chronic puffiness under your eyes, others may perceive you as angry, sad or tired, even when you’re healthy and happy.
If your eyes do not reflect the “real” you, we can help. Our Baltimore plastic surgeons can restore a more refreshed, youthful eyelid contour through an eyelid lift surgery personalized to your unique needs.
Open the eyes to correct an angry or worried appearance
If you have heavy,”hooded” upper eyelids due to genetics or aging, upper eyelid surgery can remove the excess skin, fat and muscle to open up your eyes and give you a brighter, refreshed appearance. Through incisions hidden in the natural crease of your eyelids, our surgeons work with careful precision to achieve your desired improvement while maintaining your natural appearance.
Remove puffiness & dark circles for a rested appearance
Puffiness underneath your eyes can make you look constantly tired or years older than you actually are, which can occur in patients as young as their early 30s. Lower eyelid surgery can restore a more youthful appearance by removing or redistributing excess fat to smooth out the area underneath your eye.
Take years off your appearance with total eyelid rejuvenation
Many patients can benefit from a combination of upper and lower eyelid surgery, also known as “quad blepharoplasty.” By addressing sagging, wrinkled skin on the upper eyelids, removing excess fat, and smoothing the skin underneath the eyes, this procedure can achieve dramatic improvements for a more beautiful eyelid contour.
What is Surgery & Recovery Like?
Eyelid surgery is personalized to address your unique needs. The surgery and recovery process will vary from patient to patient. Blepharoplasty usually takes 1 to 2 hours, done on an outpatient basis in our fully accredited surgical facility, The Surgery Center at Belcara Health. Because your safety is our first concern, we work with board-certified anesthesiologists for all surgical procedures. Following surgery, you will be able to rest in the comfort of your own home.
You may experience some bruising or swelling in the first few days following surgery, but these typically resolve in 1-2 weeks. Your surgeon will give you thorough instructions that are tailored to your individual case, but in general patients can expect the following:
- Rest in bed the day of surgery and limit activity for the next 3-5 days.
- Avoid strenuous activities for about 1 to 2 weeks.
- Typically, you can return to work within seven to 10 days.
- Wear sunglasses and protect your eyes from sun and wind.
You may also find your eyes tire more easily for the first few weeks, so plan to take frequent breaks throughout the day.
A Comprehensive Approach to Facial Rejuvenation
At Belcara Health, our goal is to help you achieve a naturally youthful appearance that is long-lasting. In our experience, a balanced, comprehensive approach helps patients achieve their goals most effectively. Each patient has unique needs and frequently other procedures are combined with eyelid surgery for a more complete rejuvenation, including the following:
- Fat grafting can replace lost volume around the eyes, temples, upper cheeks, and brow.
- Injectables like BOTOX® Cosmetic or fillers can smooth wrinkles or add volume to refine features.
- Laser resurfacing treatments can improve skin tone and texture around the eyes and face.
- A MACS lift or brow lift, performed at the same time as an eyelid lift, can address more advanced sagging skin in the cheeks or forehead.
